This has been a most challenging month for us, but it ends on a note of blessed news. Diane was able to have the cancer in her lungs surgically removed at Huntsman Hospital, and just this week, she was gifted another miracle. After all the tests, they believe they removed everything. What wonderful words! They caught it early, and with cancer, as you know, that is everything. I thank all of you for your prayers, healing thoughts, and kind energy and service. Again, all I can leave with you is this: “Please check your home for Radon.” It IS real, and it IS dangerous. I have assembled a bunch of information and resource links here on my website. So—with all that has been going on, I have struggled to put even two words together, but the few I did express my love in countless words. The poetry form I used in “Our Walk” below is a Japanese style known as Tanka, one of my favorites. It begins like a Haiku, in a 5, 7, 5 syllable style, but adds two more concluding lines of 7 and 7. I also try to write at least one Haiku a month as a warm-up or stretching exercise for something that may spring larger. It grounds me in the power of saying so much in fewer words, particularly as I look for peace within nature. In all the din of today’s bloviations and vulgar spittles of anger, we could learn to speak fewer words and kinder words. That is why I find Haiku to be an incredible comfort.
