The color changes majestically saturate our Octobers, and with these vibrant promises for another year of spring renewal, I have focused on this grand metaphor of nature. Peace is a moment so desperately needed around us today. In light of the recent LDS Church shooting and fire in Michigan, my heart is broken for all who suffer violence. We all need to spend more time mourning with those who mourn. Even as far back as 1988, our own church was blown up by a local terrorist. Yet in that dark time, our community spirits grew together, and we found tranquility. Like autumnal grace, when the noise of division and hate gets louder, the peace of our spirits must absorb the grey tones and reflect back the vibrant colors of love. In all of this, I have embraced one sure truth—it is much easier to be a peacemaker than to sow anger and division. Love can always prevail if we make the effort.
