About Me

Doug W. Evans

Doug and his wife Diane live near the Weber River in Oakley, Utah, a pastoral mountain valley where they grew their family. He and his wife often campaign for river water quality issues as well as trail and educational opportunities for the youth of Kamas Valley. Doug is the retired water and energy sustainability director of Mountain Regional Water District, a large water supplier in western Summit County. Under the direction of the County Council, He was one of the founders of that water district. Doug has spent his life in the environmental science industry, focusing primarily on water resource protection, efficiency, and sustainability. He has served in many public positions, including on the Oakley City Council and as Mayor. Doug also served on the Summit County Board of Health, specializing in improving environmental health through clean water and wastewater service. As an Oakley City Planning Commission member, he has helped re-write the City's General Plan and Maps, the Development Codes, and the current Zoning maps. He also serves as a South Summit Trails Foundation board member, believing that access to the outdoors is a lasting and effective treatment for mental health issues. As an avid hiker, biker, explorer, and naturalist, Doug has spent much of his life writing poetry and essays on water, particularly regarding the vital protection of our living lakes and rivers. He also enjoys writing about the unifying aspects of nature, science, and his strong LDS faith. These are tonics of mercy during times of depression and anxiety as an environmental steward on the "left-hand fork of the river" in Utah.
