My Life as A River

Sailing Upon Light

we sail far betwixt an endless ocean and sky
floating through fleeting realms of reality
coursing cerulean lights and dreads of dark
skating between a silver glass stillness of joy
and furious waves of wild and fearful pain
we stand as the captains of our adventures
wrought in heartache, bravery, and triumph
while we learn to steer our boats for rescue

this tall painted sky and deep moving waters
admire each other in sweeping reflections
touching distant vapors of eternal affection
their tears of each other—weeping in clouds
rise as spirits in a clear essence of renewal

but if we adulterate their climates in conflict
by infusing putrid smokes of pride into their
peaceful hibernaculum of imposing embrace
we smudge fumes of indifference through us

if the terrestrial mirrors of our azure expanse
fail to gather and refract the divine lights
that rise and set beneath amber-gilded skies
splendors they reflect in us will be distorted
love will cease to reverberate—and our waters
and lights of life will fade under choking sails

ever grateful—we walk on our beach of destiny
where time scattered lovely shells of our past
misty spirits light reflections of our affections
—I see myself as I look into her deep blue eyes
our hearts melt into clear embraces of eternity
as love rises in white clouds of a brighter hope
