The Poor in Spirit

Part 2 — A Friend on the Mountain

God patiently teaches me
the forgotten blessings of attitudes
in authentic—broken souls like us
by raining down peace and love
from His magnificent mountain
first—to the humble or poor in spirit
who are often—His first followers
healed—to blossom in compassion
and who calmly seek further truth
like a vibrant—colorful wildflower
scattered in the meadows of creation
bringing a spark of beauty to purpose
always unique but remaining contrite
and who cast all their coarse pride
into the vast crumbling scree fields
of yesterday’s stark rendering of time

these fragile absorb every drop of sun
upon this resilient but gentle place
known as—the kingdom of heaven

(Matthew 5:3)
