Innocence Lost

Everything we needed to know in life / we learned as a child / then innocence tasted indifference / cynicism took root / still / our children and our pets / they loved on / understanding our spiritual universe / its connected lights / playing on its scaffolds / laughing in nebulas of truth / climbing galactic branches of family / tiny homes / blanketed portals of welcoming love / dancing songs / they knew better than us grown-ups / and while dogs and kids satiate their entire space and time / in safer sticky hugs / flourishing in glowing stars of unconditional love / selfless / undeniable / untainted / wholesome / devoted / trusting / swinging on ropes of hopes / wet noses resting on keyboards / tongues smeared in ice cream / patient in forgiveness / full of merciful grace / and that is why / they mustn’t be harmed / but what are we now / why can’t we reflect a similar joy / like they learned from God / their kind Father / back to our God / and our heavenly family / including our earth / that kisses their little smudged hands and paws / simplicity in divinity / in a purer promise / woven friends / delicate little spirits / borrowing from God’s spiritual gift / they twirl it into tender miracles / seeking only slender / random rays of sun / to rest beneath / curling into tight furry balls / absorbing warmth into hearts / growing under tears / and we could learn from their sinless souls / to spread celestial smiles of light / filling hearts with dogged peace and truth / like we once knew / but we forgot / with so little time / in careless age / our heartless rage / cheated by money and its pride / of everything we needed to know / and do / we lost so much / but the love of children and pets / stays sure / protected from storms / living in heaven’s warm temples / because they returned to innocence / and in the end / when we are greeted by their guiltless spirits / and we see we are all children of God / what shall we say / I pray I will be more like them / than what I have become…

And Jesus said: Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God… Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not enter therein. And he took them up in his arms, put his hands upon them, and blessed them.
