My Christmas Prayer
Let the multi-colored lights glow upon my verdant tree
kindling the hearts of everyone who feels left without
Let stars—swaying from the infinite beams of heaven
illuminate the weeping souls of those poor in spirit
Let enduring comforts of a safe and loving embrace
warm the mortified dungeons of those who mourn
Let magnificent, choired melodies of generous Earth
bestow homes for the meek, humble, and submissive
Let our bounteous feasts, warming beside fireplaces
slake thirst and feed all who are pained with hunger
Let God’s gifts of tender mercies and quiet patience
fall like gentle snows upon those who are merciful
Let God reveal His redeeming face of boundless love
upon those who have nurtured the joys of a pure heart
Let trumpets proclaim the children of God who are
peacemakers—giving hope and enlightenment to fear
Let the gates of the Kingdom of Heaven open wide
to those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake
Let a forgiveness that spans beyond time softly distill
upon those reviled for standing up with the oppressed
Let fragrant wreaths of genuine hope and peace adorn
Christ’s selfless laborers of good word and kind deed
Let God’s creations and creatures continue to provide
while we serve as wise stewards of our beloved planet
Let us find God’s glory—prepared from our foundations
by clothing the naked and seeking the lost and outcast
Let us endure our long paths by communing with God
as we minister to the sick and visit those bound in prison
Let us become true disciples of God by serving the least
of these by taking in His strangers and grieving refugees
And let us be brave—loving ourselves enough—to ask
the most vital question of life—What would Jesus do?
