like tree roots burrowing through
their unfamiliar soils of darkness
seeking every sliver of lost water
poets dig deftly to reach through
their abstracted universes of love
nature and its confounding mystery
to find a rare expression of words
that speaks to every beautiful thing
they could not naturally speak
