A Common Thread

the vastness of the sea
brings me serenity
as I ponder our residue
in her galactic churns of life

every cherished creature
whirls in her tides of azure glass
eroding inside a bath of time
to pure and everlasting spirit

and as I touch her immortal realm
drowning in her spiritual fluids
I dissolve into a family of God
that attaches me to everything

I see all things—including earth

first sculpted in exquisite spirit

including our own statures of dust

before a dressing of mortal matter

each spirit is woven into a quilt
with threads of a divine purpose
sewn in shapes of a deep ecology
of liberty, empathy, justice, and mercy

I walk in cool sprays of redemption
upon her soft spackle of beach
where alabaster sands restore me
and obliterate my footsteps of past

within this quantum entanglement
of God’s kind spirit and my spirit
I join in the splendor of all earth
a refrain of magnificent harmony

hope beyond any dissonance of hate
haunting narrow corridors of time
with power, greed, and shrill politics
dust perishing in their own effluence

but as I lift my interconnected spirit
above the storming frays of life
I peacefully join into something
far greater than I ever imagined

where together—we reflect God’s love
radiating joys of His perfect creation
holding the vastness of an endless sea
gently connecting our spirits—with eternity
