Children of Peace

Part 8 — A Friend on the Mountain

sculpting peace requires only a few small words
words mirrored in the divine gifts of happiness
but unleashed—fierce tongues spew evil spells
plunging life into cowardly spittles of vulgarity
where landslides of mud spread vast wreckage
heaping fear upon families and dividing society
against each other—to brinks of indefensible war
but peacemakers hold a special—blessed place
within God’s own heart of mercy and restoration
using instinctive skills—they were once born into
gifted as children—they flee from anger and hate
filling cold spaces with music, poetry, art, and love
for after the most insidious mountain glaciers
rip away at the statures of steadfast massifs
disparaging and mocking God’s kind creations
the stars of hope—innate to peaceful children
wittingly liquify time’s fingers of icy cruelty
leaving long terminal moraines of opportunity
filling up with gentle turquoise waters of life
healing broken pinnacles with perfect beauty
and this is why—Jesus surrounded Himself
with the smiles of blameless—innocent children
reflecting such love to inspire the peacemakers
who are known now—as the children of God
