Choice

we can choose to view our steely spherical reality
behind shiny spectacles of desperate demagogues
lurking inside cold crypts of divisive darkness
where oozing words of obscuring conflict seep
deep into the festering dungeons of our minds
bound in spells of suffocating stink—it’s easier
for us to focus our monied—self-righteousness
into fomenting new-fangled rules and stark rubrics
even crafting coldblooded and convoluted laws
blaming one person, culture, everyone, or thing
for heaping up dry bones of our made-up delusions
as we creep blind to our own faults, sins, and pride

 OR

we can choose to find hope within God’s beauty
cherishing His devoted creations of divine nature
embracing the gentle hearts and caring hands of
our inestimable brothers and sisters with gratitude
wandering paths on this humble meadow of reality
we grow tall by recognizing our own imperfections
we better accept and learn from our weaknesses
and witness clearly—the struggles of the forgotten
united—we create warm empathy and compassion
in all the green wonders of life and its discoveries
and sheltered within lands of faith, hope, and charity
we find ourselves and redemption—by rescuing others
