Death of a Friend

life's grace is more natural in waters
than any sky's echo of uncertainty
still—even jellyfish dream of escape
to a synchronicity of energy and air

I feel a love’s sacred spirit take flight
into clear ethers of endless destiny
joining a million harmonized starlings
that shape living shadows of wind
pulsing murmurations—drinking sunsets
folding their skies in unfathomable
dimensions of deep—haunting beauty
smoky swarms of pure flowing love

in exquisite displays of selfless light
they dance as one—but never really see
their shared splendor of calming grace
but I see it all—as I embrace their peace
