Falling Stars

an innocent starling
flew hard—into
our large window
the sound was terrifying
she lay on our porch
twitching in pain
beneath the cold wind
as my heart sank
into the dark depths
amid her beautiful stars
tears flowed in my heart
our majestic view
spanning God’s creation
created a transparent wall
reflecting a false safety
to her view of creation
it’s a complex world
we’re all so inexperienced
in these boxes of survival
I often feel at times
like her tiny spirit—
alone—shrouded in stars
shunned from protections
in God’s carving murmurations
of love, respect, and hope…
she slowly recovered—then flew away—
to a void still waiting—in her galaxy of peace…
