Lest I Forget

my kind—angelic wife
and I—walk older
and after wandering 46 years
we often forget stuff
of all types and shapes
this is mortal love

we always remind
each other’s smile
to remind each other
of a day’s big things
but we don’t even know
enough to know the things
we disremembered
this is innocent love

we can’t even remember
issues we may have had
with each other—
forgotten forevermore—
we just laugh or cry
as we remember us—
this is unforgotten love

but now—lest I forget—
I do vividly remember—
long before we were born
walking hand in hand
on a long alabaster path
ascending verdant peace
to a mountainous temple
this is hopeful love

there—I saw in her deep
blue eyes—our futures—
pains, healings, and joys
so together—we leaped
off its cliff of heavenly grace
upon Earth’s adventure—
to eventually find each other
and discover happiness
as one spirit and one soul
beneath Heavenly Parents
and this is eternal love
