My Last Well…

in my parched—late, wrinkly years
of a long, watery life—I dug a well
over two thousand feet deep—
not by my own hand—mind you
but a sacrifice of a well-known town
drilling with modern technology
melding friends in earth science
with cooperation and arduous work
not to mention—wells of faith
in the end—the cold, hesitant tears
of a forbearing—empathetic earth
relented to join us in a clear love
to bless us with a flowing fountain
that will last well beyond my life
to posterities of countless children
it’s well—we named it the Cattail well
because Cattails symbolize—well
water and rain—peace and prosperity
so, this is my last well and testament
to living powers far beyond me…
