My Refuge of Green

evergreens huddle around my dark sorrows
quieting anxious tines of ravaging nerves
whispering their draught of greener spice
I breathe spellbound in a wilderness temple

hushed in this sacred alcove of my heart
I greet the soft spirit of my divine creator
who anoints my eyes with balms of peace
and washes me in healing waters of love

I turn from rough basaltic stones of dearth
to calm rivers reflecting rays of vivid love
as mercy ignites my hoary sphere with hope
I sacrifice frigid fears for consistent courage

once devoured by my dragons of darkness
I now walk endowed—within a safe—eternal light
