Some Dreams Die

social media is a slithering prospector
unearthing gilded treasures in dreams
to market you and your precious hopes
without regard to any gems of happiness
it can dox you in its malevolent vapors
of strangulating quests—coercing you to
surrender your revered dreams and secrets
in weighty soot—smothering your truth
behind its drab escarpments of cold doubt

I was not always mindful or careful
as its minions mined doggedly to uncover
some of my secret and delicate places
even my beloved destinations of healing
which nature still struggles to protect—
to keep hidden in her sheltered stores
and in our forgotten but sacred trusts

avoid letting these emotionless machines
take advantage like it stealthily bound me
in its churn to uncover all the secreted
and delicate places of your tender heart
your extraordinary and sacred dreams
your gentle ever-flowering spirits
and every pure hope engraved in your soul

the shadows of these social tempests
can rage their darkness and inflict pain
on countless depressing hearts that weep
or absorb as good—flawed or fake realities
posted in torments of a lying pretense
built upon panoramas that appear real
while ignoring countless dreams that die

keep most of your private parts hidden—
storied away—into fables and legends
that you seal away in personal chests
buried deep in verdant protective forests
to uncover only when you need them
for your benefit or for others in want
or a loving soul kept especially for you
or the glow of your emergent posterity

protect each token of rare or golden virtue—
that defines your identity—your purpose
and ultimately—your cherished destiny
from likely assassination by the jealous
treasure up all your secret places—
into a refuge of solace where you alone
can live to tell the tales of your dreams
to empathetic ears and your true friends

obscure your most exquisite pearls
discuss your visions in a safe propriety
with your closest partner in love
your precious and wanting family
and your trees of long-deceased ancestors
friends that stand ready to release on you
fruits of their dreams and better angels
that will work relentlessly to protect
your most hallowed secrets and dreams
