We Are Different

we were always different
not like amassing clouds
so—they pounded us—
with their storms of words
and we endured patiently
they flooded us—
with their chasms of hate
we endured doggedly
they bound us—
with their fiery squalls
we endured tenaciously
they struck us—
with their electrified spears
we endured steadfastly
they shook us—
with their angry tremors
we endured indefatigably
and what remained—
was our colorful inimitability
yes—we are different
but we stand faithful as one—
magnificent and beautiful
