I’m Job
spring and summer
skipped over my body
leaving me behind
lost and forgotten
in the grips of winter
infecting my lungs
hijacking my blood
and tangling my time
in long tubes of oxygen
panting beneath blankets
of shivering self-pity
yet— I will climb on—
my faith that fuels me
with God’s good grace
will never abandon me
in hopeless confusion
over these thresholds
of a wondrous universe
for hidden deep in me
lies undiscovered seeds
in soft golden meadows
with blossoming life
and as darkness and light
squabble over all my days
laden in awkward blunders
—all my family and friends
still stand beside me—for
I know that my redeemer liveth,
and that he shall stand
at the latter day upon the earth:
And though after my skin worms
destroy this body,
yet in my flesh shall I see God:
