True Freedom

I weep at all killing and indecency
with its spawn of painful division
Why can’t we find peace in our roots?
Are we not all children of God?

 

I hold all truth to be self-evident
All people are created equal
They are endowed by their Creator
with certain unalienable rights
that among these are life, liberty
and the pursuit of happiness
and to secure these rights
governments are instituted among us
deriving their just powers
from the consent of the governed

 

Democracy is a sacred—delicate power
And our safe sanctuary is threatened
when we create new—innocent enemies
to blame all our hardships upon

 

Speech is also sacred when used frugally
Unity is art—painted with calm bravery
division and fear are vomited in wrath
And I cringe as our rose soft tongues
are transitioning into forged iron guns
armed with penetrating bullets of words
our words will always matter—
They will become our eternal legacies

 

There are only two commandments
incased within a universal golden rule—
love God—and love your neighbor
The first is proven by doing the second

 

My cherished freedom is rediscovered
When I don’t need to rationalize
or justify the darkness of any hate
True freedom shadows decent people
